The puppy squeazed out on an afternoon walk and felt sick by the time it returned home. The owner could make it out at the first sight of the puppy and put it to sleep. After a cushy sleep, the owner woke up the puppy and fed food. Owner’s MIL pitched in with some green leaves acting on the instinct of self- cure medicines which has amazingly worked for her. Matter of fact is that the doctors in the area have never seen MIL in their clinics! That’s a feat!
Feet, puppy could hardly stand on; owner’s feet were all over after the puppy threw up 10 times all night. Owner and her MIL’s confabulations led to puppy being rolled up in warm clothing to be taken to a HOSPITAL.
HAH: Reason 1:
Owner is a full time working lady who like most women smartly divides her time between work, house hold chores and other societal obligations. The puppy on the other hand, had its fours tied as it was part of the training institute to coach top show dogs other than going around the garden and fend off. This cycle somehow decreased the time both of them spent with each other.
This provided an apt opportunity to make up for the lost time and rekindle the love.
There were three times a day, where nurses made a bee line to check the temperature, BP and change the fluids – what from antibiotic to glucose to multi vitamin injections to tablets in the ****** Barring the times where the puppy dosed off under the influence of antibiotics, owner made it a point to spend all other time staring the puppy, cuddling, ruffling the hair on the head.
Any onlookers could see a kind of connection which was evident from the laughter that used to peel out from every visit of a nurse/doctor/relative/friend.
HAH: Reason 2:
The people from unexpected quarters who visit the patient is what makes the hospital stay (dis) comforting.
The first person to visit the Puppy was the Boss from Puppy’s place. Two things surprised the owner: The very visit and the validation of the fact that there was something more than loyalty that bound the puppy and the boss!
Owner’s parents visited the puppy recollecting all the good moments spent with the puppy though majority of the time during the visit was spent elaborating on the modern medicine, concocting on symptoms which were not present. I wish the puppy had the bark power to say ‘NOOOOOOO’
The puppy could not manage a squeak let alone a bark for the first day. The first muffled bark emanated when one of the second-in-line doctors visited the ward. Forget the mercurial level of the BP she tested, its heart should have skipped a beat like the rogue it chases whenever it caught sight of this siren! Owner for once was OK to let her place-off
Owner’s SIL was worried that owner is straining herself by tending to the puppy round the clock. She was of the opinion that puppy is ok at home and hospital sucks his energy away. She made up a visit to the hospital to rest her SIL and coached the puppy on the “Marketing of Liquor”. This was the perfect tasting session for the puppy to be a Top Dog!
HAH: Reason 3:
The role of puppies these days is reduced to that of trophy as homes are so secure and women can induce the scare in the street dogs themselves. There was hardly an opportunity for Puppy to ‘Be a DOG’ (remember ‘be the man’ retort in DCH). The stay in the hospital meant that the owner had to use the same facility to freshen up, bathe etc.
Owner showed the place next to the main door to stand guard to not let any one slip by while she was coming out of the bathroom to the changing room. This meant going back to its roots –protecting instinct. It felt like a ‘DOG’
Romance, loved ones and a role one enjoys playing! Hospital acchi hai!
